James Thormod is an Architect with a particular interest in timber construction, housing and self-build.

While working at MAP Architecture James has led a number of retrofit renovation projects for domestic clients and schools, which look to uplift underperforming existing buildings and improve their environmental performance and social value. James has experience working with community groups and leading early stage engagement workshops with local stakeholders and the council.

In 2022, in collaboration with the Architecture Foundation, James co-produced and interviewed residents for a documentary of Nubia Way – a black-led self-build project in Downham, Lewisham built in 1997.
